Darkly Black

We come in all different sizes
And in all different ages
And our varied ways of life
Are all at  different stages.
Some of us are hale
Some of us are healthy
Many of us are poor
A few of us are wealthy

But what we have in common
We all swore that oath
Or, In old fashioned terms
We all pledged our troth
To stand for sovereign and country
No matter what that may cost.
Many us of are mentally affected
A good few have limbs lost,

But, abled or disabled
All of us have served
Not many get the respect
We feel they have deserved.
Some of us are young
Some of us are old
Some of us retiring
And some of us are bold.

We stand in our brotherhood
Help each other when we can
And all of us are proud
To call ourselves a Veteran.
All in different shapes and sizes
And no matter what we may lack
We all share our service and
A sense of humour darkly black.
